Laser Wrinkle Treatments (Resurfacing, Fraxel, Fractionated CO2, and Erbium)
Dr. Stolman offers various treatments that remove wrinkles.
The two most aggressive laser treatments are Laser Skin Resurfacing (with Erbium and CO2 lasers, often called a Laser Peel), and Ablative Fractional Laser Treatment (using CO2 lasers like the Fraxel Repair brand laser).
Which treatment is right for you? It depends on how severe your condition and how much downtime you can afford.
Laser skin resurfacing, sometimes referred to as a "laser peel," uses laser light to safely remove the outer layers of skin, and stimulate new collagen, revealing healthier looking skin beneath. Laser skin resurfacing is commonly used to treat wrinkles, scars, sun damage, age spots and uneven pigmentation.
The procedure uses laser energy to eliminate years of aging, winkles, and scars. When combined with Botox® Cosmetic (or other wrinkle muscle relaxers), and/or filler treatment (for deeper wrinkles and folds), spectacular results can be achieved.
Ablative Fractional Laser treatments (where lasers treat just a fraction of the skin’s surface), represent the latest technological advancement in cosmetic laser surgery. Such treatments have been extremely successful at safely improving skin texture, tightening loose skin, minimizing scars, and reducing uneven pigmentation with less downtime than non-fractionated laser treatments.
Specifically, there are two types of ablative lasers: Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Erbium YAG.
What’s the difference?
CO2 lasers create more heat in the skin during treatment. The light and heat help tighten the skin by producing millions of small laser holes. As the skin heals, it produces new collagen, tightens and texture improves. (It’s almost like micro-aeration of skin, similar to aerating your lawn. Ablative lasers actually remove microscopic tubules of skin, while leaving the surrounding area untreated, thereby allowing the skin to heal more quickly.) This treatment is ideal for patients with moderate to severe wrinkles or severely scarred skin (including acne scarring). It’s also used to tighten stretch marks on the stomach and smooth crêpe-like skin (sometimes called chicken-skin) on the neck and chest.
Erbium YAG lasers offer less aggressive treatments than the CO2. The Erbium YAG laser also produces millions of small holes in the skin, but with less heat. As a result, there is generally less redness and faster healing, but with not as much tightening of the skin. Erbium YAG treatments work well for less severe wrinkles, scars and other skin texture abnormalities. However, they may not produce as dramatic of a result in someone with severe scars or severely aged and wrinkled skin.
Dr. Stolman is pleased to off both types of treatment. For ablative fractional laser treatments (CO2), we use the Fraxel Repair Laser. We believe it to be the finest such laser in the cosmetic industry today.
For less aggressive treatments (and patients who require faster healing), I also offer the Fraxel Dual (1550nm, 1927nm) laser.
If you’re unsure which treatment is best (and with so many options, I recommend you come in for a consultation. In the comfort of our private office, we can show you examples of other people who had success with these treatments and discuss your goals in person to determine which treatment would be best for you.
Radiofrequency Skin Rejuvenation
Dr. Stolman is also excited to offer eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation is an exciting FDA approved aesthetic procedure that offers skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, skin tightening and even lifting, with less downtime and lower cost than traditional skin rejuvenating treatments. Full improvement may require more treatment sessions, but with less downtime, depending on the severity of the skin problem, compared to the Erbium and CO2 laser treatments described above.
eMatrix uses RF or radiofrequency technology to remove microscopic bits of skin beneath the surface (a process called ablation). As the treated skin heals, it produces new collagen resulting in smoother, tighter appearing skin.
The procedure is quick, recovery is minimal (accommodating those with busy schedules), and results are impressive.
